Texas, Oklahoma weekly livestock auction summaries for September 30

Texas

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers sold 2.00 to 6.00 lower. Trade activity was light to moderate on moderate demand. Unweaned and nonvaccinated calves taking a heavier discount as we move into the cooler Fall months. Slaughter cow and bulls were 1.00 to 2.00 lower. Supply included: 78% Feeder Cattle (62% Steers, 2% Dairy Steers, 30% Heifers, 5% Bulls, 1% Dairy Heifers); 17% Slaughter Cattle (92% Cows, 8% Bulls); 4% Replacement Cattle (73% Stock Cows, 20% Bred Cows, 7% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 60%.

Oklahoma

Compared to last week: Feeder steers 5.00 to 10.00 lower. Feeder heifers 6.00-12.00 lower. Demand moderate to good. Steer calves 5.00-10.00 lower. Heifer calves 4.00-9.00 lower. Demand moderate for calves. Summer temperatures held on till the very last day of the season. Fall like temperatures are expected for next week. Hoping moisture will accompany those lower temps. Slaughter cows 3.00-7.00 lower. Slaughter bulls steady to 3.00 lower. Packer demand moderate as continued heavy supplies are now having a downward effect on the market. Supply included: 81% Feeder Cattle (49% Steers, 0% Dairy Steers, 41% Heifers, 10% Bulls, 0% Dairy Heifers); 17% Slaughter Cattle (96% Cows, 4% Bulls); 2% Replacement Cattle (80% Bred Cows, 4% Bred Heifers, 16% Cow-Calf Pairs). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 42%.
