GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – Two Comanche County men were arrested Saturday for the theft of four head of cattle. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger Doug Hutchison led the investigation.
On Friday, Billy Jack Glover, 48, and Michael Chance Ward, 26, allegedly stole four head of cattle from a rancher in Comanche County. The suspects drove on to the victim’s land, roped the four head of cattle on horseback, loaded them into a trailer and drove to Schwertner, Texas, where they sold the cattle to Capital Land and Livestock. Suspicions were raised about the cattle at Capital Land and Livestock which tipped off authorities.
Further investigations revealed that the cattle were stolen.
Glover and Ward were held at the Williamson County jail in Georgetown. Both suspects bonded out on bail of $15,000 each.
“Thankfully we caught the thieves quickly,” Hutchison said. “We were able to confiscate the checks each suspect collected at the cattle company before they could cash them as well as all four head of cattle. Those cattle were returned to the owner.”
Hutchison said there could be more cattle at large, and that the investigation is still ongoing.
Theft of four head of cattle is a third degree felony. If convicted Glover and Ward could each face up to ten years in prison and/or up to a $10,000 fine.
TSCRA has 29 special rangers stationed strategically throughout Texas and Oklahoma who have in-depth knowledge of the cattle industry and are trained in all facets of law enforcement. All are commissioned as Special Rangers by the Texas Department of Public Safety and/or the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
