TVDML adds several new bovine panels to test catalog

The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) is pleased to announce the addition of seven bovine panels to their test catalog. TVMDL compiles diagnostic panels to assist clients in efficient diagnostic testing for multiple bovine issues.
Test: Bovine Abortion Panel: Fetal Tissue
Description: The client still has the ability to add or delete tests as desired. Tests included in this panel: bacterial abortion culture, histopathology, bovine herpesvirus 1 PCR, bovine viral diarrhea virus PCR, Leptospira spp. PCR, Neospora caninum PCR, and liver vitamin A quantification. This panel can be combined with a necropsy of the fetus and/or serologic testing of the dam via the Bovine Comprehensive Abortion Serology Panel. Virus isolation can be added before or during testing if needed. If 1.0 mL ocular fluid/whole eyeball is included nitrates can be requested before or during testing if needed. TVMDL can forward liver to a referral laboratory for trace mineral analysis at any point in the testing process. The cost of these additional diagnostics are not included in the price of the panel.

Test: Bovine Neurological Disease Tissue Panel
Description: The submitter still has the ability to add or delete tests, as indicated or desired. Tests included in this panel: Livestock (anaerobic and aerobic) culture, Histopathology, kidney Lead (referral), Nitrates Qualitative, Vitamin A & E quantification, Bovine Herpesvirus qPCR, and McMaster’s EPG. Anaplasma marginale PCR, BLV PCR, brain cholinesterase and/or brain sodium levels can be requested for an additional fee. If fresh and frozen rumen contents are included, rumen content microscopic analysis, toxic chemical screening (GC/MS), ammonia (for urea poisoning), and/or cyanide levels (prussic acid) can be requested for an additional cost.

Test: Bovine Sudden Death Tissue Panel
Description: The submitter still has the ability to add or delete tests, as indicated or desired. Tests included in this panel: Histopathology, Livestock (anaerobic and aerobic) culture, Anaplasma marginale PCR, Clostridium FA, Rumen content microscopic analysis, and qualitative nitrates. Ocular fluid magnesium quantification can be requested before or during testing for an additional fee. If a quart of frozen contents is submitted ammonia (for urea poisoning) and/or cyanide testing (prussic acid) can be done for an additional fee.

Test: Bovine Biosecurity Serology Panel
Description: Tests: Bovine leukemia virus ELISA, Mycobacterium avium ssp. Paratuberculosis (Johne’s disease) ELISA, Anaplasma marginale cELISA, Mycoplasma bovis ELISA, Leptospira 5 serovar microagglutination test (MAT) panel, Histophilus somni MAT, Mannheimia haemolytica MAT, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus neutralization (VN), parainfluenza 3 VN, bovine respiratory syncytial virus VN, bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) 1a VN, bovine coronavirus VN, BVD antigen capture ELISA

Test: Bovine Basic BRD Serology Panel
Description: This panel includes: microagglutination tests (MAT) for Histophilus somni and Mannheimia haemolytica as well as virus neutralization tests for IBR (BHV-1), BVD-1a, PI3 and BRSV.

Test: Bovine Comprehensive BRD Serology Panel
Description: This panel includes: Mycoplasma bovis ELISA, microagglutination tests (MAT) for Histophilus somni and Mannheimia haemolytica, and virus neutralization tests bovine rhinotracheitis virus neutralization, parainfluenza-3, bovine respiratory syncytial virus, bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) 1a, and bovine coronavirus.

Test: Bovine Comprehensive BRD Tissue Panel
Description: The client still has the ability to add or delete tests as desired. Tests included in this panel: Histopathology, BRD Viral PCR Panel (BRSV, BVD, PI3, IBR), Livestock (aerobic and anaerobic) culture, Mycoplasma culture, and Mycoplasma bovis PCR. Virus isolation and/or antimicrobial susceptibility testing can be requested before or during testing for an additional fee.
