TSCRA Executive Director of Government and Public Affairs Jason Skaggs discusses challenges facing the state’s cattle industry before the Texas House Agriculture and Livestock Committee.

TSCRA’s Jason Skaggs, executive director of government and public affairs, testified Monday before the Texas House Agriculture and Livestock Committee at an interim hearing at the State Capitol. TSCRA was invited to testify specifically on the committee’s interim charge of evaluating challenges and threats to the Texas cattle industry.
Skaggs discussed the current state of the cattle industry and spoke about the importance of conserving the state’s water resources. He also discussed what TSCRA has done to help with the state’s preparedness for natural disasters and disease outbreaks. Lastly, Skaggs talked about the importance of preserving land for agricultural use in addition to the effects that declining oil and gas prices can have on surface damages to ranchers’ property caused by oil and gas production.
