Hot, dry conditions persisted across many areas of the state last week. Areas of the High Plains and the Northern Low Plains reported precipitation ranging between 0.5 and 1.0 inch, with isolated areas getting upwards of 3 inches. The rest of the state reported little to no precipitation. There were 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork. The rice crop was in the headed stage and shifting into the fair category. Livestock conditions continued to be rated mostly fair to good across the state. Supplemental feeding of livestock was reported in the Low Plains, the Cross Timbers, the Blacklands and South Texas. Cattle in the Northern Low Plains were being treated for ear mites and flies. Producers in areas of the Southern Low Plains, the Cross Timbers and the Blacklands began to cull and sell herds due to a lack of suitable forage.
