CHICKASHA, OKLAHOMA – An Edmond, Okla. man was arrested Friday for Larceny of Domestic Animals. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger Austin Green along with the McClain County Sheriff’s Office led the investigation.
Scotty Lynn Austin, 40, allegedly stole 18 head of cattle from ranchers in Grady and McClain counties. He sold the cattle at Stockman’s Oklahoma Livestock Auction in Apache, Okla.
Part of the cattle were recovered and returned to the owners.
Green believes Austin may be linked to several other cattle theft cases throughout the area. Those cases are still pending at this time.
“Thanks to the McClain County Sheriff’s Office, we were able to gather information and make the arrest quickly,” Green said.
If convicted Austin could face up to eight years in prison and/or up to four times the value of the stolen cattle.
TSCRA has 29 special rangers stationed strategically throughout Texas and Oklahoma who have in-depth knowledge of the cattle industry and are trained in all facets of law enforcement. All are commissioned as Special Rangers by the Texas Department of Public Safety and/or the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association is a 133-year-old trade organization. As the largest and oldest livestock association in Texas, TSCRA represents more than 15,000 beef cattle producers, ranching families and businesses who manage approximately 4 million head of cattle on 51.5 million acres of range and pasture land, primarily in Texas and Oklahoma.
