Authorities in Texas advise that firewood should be bought and used locally to prevent new pests from entering Texas, and to prevent the spread of pests within the state. Much of Texas is under quarantine for fire ants and it is illegal to move any regulated item, such as firewood stored outdoors, out of this region. Many Southern states have additional areas under quarantine for pests and it is illegal to move any regulated items such as firewood from quarantined zones out of those states and into Texas.
