Attendees of TSCRA’s 2014 Fall Meeting met Thursday in Austin at the Sheraton at the Capitol for a full day of informational sessions and committee meetings. Morning session speakers included Lt. Gen. Joe Weber (USMC-Ret.), executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation, who talked about the problems facing the state’s transportation system; Dr. Dee Ellis, Texas Animal Health Commission state veterinarian, who gave an update on animal health issues on the commission’s agenda; as well as talks by Doug Rundle, USDA-NASS, and Ashley McDonald, NCBA. At the the noon luncheon, attendees heard from Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus about issues facing Texas during the upcoming election.
Afternoon session speakers included NCBA’s Colin Woodall, Climatologist Evelyn Browning-Garriss, who gave an update on climate weather for summer and fall; Jeff Goodwin, National Resource Conservation Service; Col. Craig Hunter, Texas Parks and Wildlife; and Robert Eckels, Texas Central Railway.
The evening social event, the Capitol Reception at Serrano’s restaurant, welcomed cattle raisers and guests for a celebration with Mexican food and music.
