Burlington man found guilty of stealing more than 100 head of cattle

On Friday a Milam County jury found William James Crenan, 59, of Burlington, guilty of theft of $100,000 to $200,000 from an elderly person. The case involved more than 100 head of cattle stolen from an El Paso rancher who was running cattle on Crenan’s pasture in northern Milam County.
The case was investigated by TSCRA Special Rangers Marvin Wills and Hal Dumas in cooperation with the Milam County Sheriff’s Office.
According to local authorities, the theft occurred on or around May 14, 2013. The week-long jury trial was held in the 20th District Court in Cameron with Judge John Youngblood presiding. Crenan’s charge is a first degree felony with a punishment range of 5 to 99 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and a fine up to $10,000.
Crenan is expected to be sentenced within the next few weeks.
