Texas BEEF Team runs Boston Marathon

Source: Texas Beef Council
Fourteen members of the Texas BEEF Team recently ran in the 121th Boston Marathon proudly wearing their beef jerseys and showcasing beef as a powerful protein. Seventeen additional Team Beef members from other states joined alongside the Texans ensuring beef was proudly represented at the historic race.
The beef runners started in Hopkinton, Mass., and ran along the rolling streets into downtown Boston on Marathon Monday to celebrate Patriots’ Day with more than 30,000 other runners from nearly 100 countries. Like all Marathon runners, Team Beef members had to run a qualifying time during a previous marathon. For most runners, qualifying for the event is a “bucket list” accomplishment.
The checkoff also participated in the John Hancock Sports and Fitness Expo leading up to the race. That event brought the beef message to 100,000 runners and their families.
Tammy Bogle of Austin, Texas, was the first female finisher for Team Beef, finishing in 3:22:39. The average finish time for the Team Beef runners was 3:40:10. Team Beef runners were from New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Wisconsin, Missouri, Nebraska, Arizona, Illinois and Colorado.
The checkoff-funded Texas BEEF Team is a community of 1,200 beef loving fitness enthusiasts across the Lone Star State. The team of athletes are committed to living active, healthy lifestyles and are dedicated to serving their community and helping other lead healthier lives.
Team Beef runners were supported by the national beef checkoff, through its Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative (NEBPI). To learn more about the Texas BEEF Team, visit TxBeefTeam.org.
The Texas Beef Council (TBC) conducts the $1 per head national checkoff program for Texas beef producers and is also the contractor for the Beef Promotion Research Council of Texas (BPRCT), which administers the $1 per head Texas state checkoff program.  TBC’s mission is to increase beef demand in the state through programs of beef promotion, research and education.  TBC also helps fund national and international beef checkoff programs to increase marketing opportunities around the globe.  The BPRCT’s mission is to improve Texas producer profitability by strengthening and expanding beef demand.  The TBC and the BPRCT are directed by a 20-member board of cattlemen and women representing the state’s beef producers.  For more information on this and other checkoff-funded programs, please visit www.TexasBeefCheckoff.com or call (800) 846.4113.
