State Senator Craig Estes and State Rep. Allan Ritter to speak on groundwater ownership at cattle raiser fall meeting

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Cattle raisers from across the state will gather in Austin, Sept. 29 through Oct. 1, for the annual Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Fall Meeting. The meeting will take place at the Omni Austin Hotel in downtown Austin, Texas. Ranchers and landowners from across the state will gather for educational breakout sessions, networking and fellowship with fellow cattle raisers.
 
The breakout sessions, hosted by TSCRA committees, begin Thursday, Sept. 30, and will cover a variety of topics critical to Texas cattle producers and landowners. A schedule of sessions is below.
 
8 a.m. – 9 a.m.
Animal Health Breakout Session
Dee Ellis, executive director of the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC), will give a TAHC budget update as well as discuss the animal disease traceability program and border violence.
 
9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Fever Tick Session
Dr. Kevin Varner, area veterinarian in charge of USDA/APHIS/VS-Texas, will give an export pen update, an update on the impacts of the Rio Grande flooding and an update on the fever tick program.
 
9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Joint Legislative and Tax and Natural Resources Session
State Senator Craig Estes, chairman, Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and State Representative Allan Ritter, chairman, House Committee on Natural Resources, will discuss groundwater issues during the upcoming legislative session.
 
3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Wildlife Session
Col. Pete Flores, director of law enforcement, Texas Parks and Wildlife, will give an update on wildlife law enforcement issues.

The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association is a 133-year-old trade organization.  As the largest and oldest livestock association in Texas,  TSCRA represents more than 15,000 beef cattle producers, ranching families and businesses who manage approximately 4 million head of cattle on 51.5 million acres of range and pasture land, primarily in Texas and Oklahoma.  TSCRA provides law enforcement and livestock inspection services, legislative and regulatory advocacy, industry news and information, insurance services and educational opportunities for its members and the industry.
