Plan ahead if transporting livestock to other states this summer

Due to horses in a couple of South Texas counties testing positive for vesicular stomatitis (VS), anyone wishing to transport susceptible species into other states is urged to check ahead to see what they require to get Texas livestock, horses and some wildlife into their state. Regulations vary widely, so you are encouraged to visit other state permit sections before contacting a vet to get a CVI on VS-affected species.

For international export information, the USDA Veterinary Services office in Austin should be contacted at 512-383-2400 or [email protected].

For more information about VS, click here to download the TAHC’s brochure or click here to download the USDA APHIS-VS fact sheet.

For additional information call 512-719-0700 or contact your local TAHC region office.

The USDA APHIS-VS 2015 Vesicular Stomatitis Situation Report is available at www.aphis.usda.gov.
