Nutrition and fitness experts live well with beef

Source: Texas Beef Council
Top-tier Texas health, nutrition and fitness experts recently joined the Texas Beef Council (TBC) for Live Well 2016. The workshop, funded by the Texas beef checkoff programs, provided an opportunity to engage and connect with 24 participants and provide them with the latest protein research, beef nutrition information and test their cooking skills.
“This event provided a unique opportunity for attendees to engage in an open discussion and hear practical information on how beef can fit into a healthy diet and lifestyle,” said Austin Brown III, TBC board chairman and rancher from Beeville. “It also aimed at building and enhancing our relationships with fitness and health professionals who not only communicate with their clients, but are also leaders in their perspective fields and potentially influence their followers.”
The workshop included several presentations on nutrition research related to foods that fuel better health, satiety factors, behavior patterns and performance.
“We explored the latest research and took a look at beef’s journey from pasture to plate,” said Hawley Poinsett, registered dietitian and TBC senior manager of nutrition. “The workshop content was designed to educate and provide meaningful solutions to help attendees and their clients enjoy nutrient-rich foods that can support a healthful, balanced and active lifestyle.”
Working with influential nutrition and fitness professionals allows the beef checkoff to have a larger impact and reach. Throughout the workshop attendees shared their experiences using a variety of social media platforms. Post-event surveys indicated a significant increase in likelihood of recommending beef to their clients and followers.
The Texas Beef Council (TBC) conducts the $1 per head national checkoff program for Texas beef producers and is also the contractor for the Beef Promotion Research Council of Texas (BPRCT), which administers the $1 per head Texas state checkoff program. TBC’s mission is to increase beef demand in the state through programs of beef promotion, research and education.
TBC also helps fund national and international beef checkoff programs to increase marketing opportunities around the globe.
The BPRCT’s mission is to improve Texas producer profitability by strengthening and expanding beef demand. The TBC and the BPRCT are directed by a 20-member board of cattlemen and women representing the state’s beef producers.
