According to a new site published by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to make clear the agency’s position on air emissions reporting for animal waste, animal agriculture can breathe a sigh of relief, at least for now. Two federal statutes, CERCLA and EPCRA, that deal with hazardous waste emissions, caused a good deal of concern and confusion in the agricultural industry as producers struggled to determine who was required to report and how to estimate the emissions of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia from manure.
