Darci Vetter in as chief US agricultural negotiator

Source: Office of the U.S. Trade Representative

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman welcomed the United States Senate’s vote July 9 confirming Darci L. Vetter as the U.S. chief agricultural Negotiator. President Obama nominated Vetter this January, citing her experience in numerous agriculture, trade, and diplomatic positions across several branches of the federal government – most recently as deputy under secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services at the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“American farmers and ranchers are central to our effort to support jobs across the United States by selling more Made-in-America goods and services to the world,” said Froman. “Darci’s expertise and experience will make her a formidable advocate for our agricultural community. I look forward to welcoming her back to USTR.”

Darci Vetter served as deputy under secretary in the office of the under secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services at the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 2010 until today. She served as international trade advisor on the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance from 2007 to 2010. Prior to the Senate, she held several roles at the office of the United States Trade Representative, including director for agricultural affairs and director for sustainable development. From 2000-2001, she was the special assistant to the under secretary for management at the U.S. Department of State. She graduated with a B.A. from Drake University and an M.P.A. and Certificate in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
