BQA Tip of the Month: How hot is your dashboard on a sunny day?

TBQP_logoIf it’s 39 degrees Fahrenheit outside your truck, what’s the temperature on your truck dashboard when the sun is shining? It’s probably much warmer than 39 degrees. Do your saddlebags soak up the heat? How warm or cold is the area next to the chute where you are working cattle?
Be sure to store antibiotics at the right temperatures to keep them effective. Throwing a bottle or box of animal health medicines up on the dashboard could be the worst way to handle an expensive product. Check the product label to find out the right storage and handling temperatures for each product.
For more best practice ranching tips, including how to become a certified Beef Quality Assurance producer, visit texasbeefquality.com. If you’ll be in Fort Worth April 8-10 to attend TSCRA’s Cattle Raisers Convention, a BQA training will be held on Saturday, April 9, for those that need credits or would like to become certified.
