September is National Preparedness Month, and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is reminding Texans it has a variety of disaster and emergency preparedness and recovery information available.
“National Preparedness Month is sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency,” said Dr. Monty Dozier, AgriLife Extension special assistant for Rebuild Texas, College Station. “It’s vitally important Texans know about disaster preparations and know what steps they can take to protect themselves, their families and their property.”
Dozier said with this being hurricane season, people in coastal areas of the state should be particularly aware of the possibility of high winds and flooding and use this month as an opportunity to learn about and employ methods of disaster preparation.
He said the Texas Extension Disaster Education Network, or Texas EDEN, website and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Bookstore website have a wide array of disaster and emergency preparedness information — most of it free or at minimal cost.
The Texas EDEN website is https://texashelp.tamu.edu and the bookstore website is https://tinyurl.com/AgriLifeBookstore.
Dozier said these sites contain useful information provided by the agency and other Texas A&M University System experts, as well as experts from state and federal agencies and throughout the national land-grant university extension system.
“In most cases, the information is also available in ebook format for mobile devices,” he said.
