Before Hurricane Harvey fully made its way into the area, many ranchers moved their cattle to higher land and pastures less likely to flood. After the storm and torrential rain had passed, many cattle were stranded when rising floodwater became too deep for trucks to get through. Ranchers are set to lose a significant amount of money if their cattle drowned, but many are being found alive but extremely tired and stressed from their ordeal. The Houston Chronicle talked to HK Ranch, Coleman Locke with JD Hudgins, TSCRA, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Texas A&M Veterinary University and agriculture specialists about the long process of recovery ahead.
