TVDML confirms 6 new equine WNV cases, first EEE in SE TX

Source: Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory
Six new cases of West Nile virus (WNV) have been confirmed by the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) in Limestone, Erath, Denton, Austin, Montgomery, Lamar, Polk, McLennan and Wood counties.
One case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) was found in Orange County in southeast Texas
Vaccination for WNV and other neurologic diseases like Eastern and Western Equine Encephalitis is recommended. Additionally, Equine Herpesvirus-1 cases have been confirmed in several states in 2016; this neurologic disease has similar clinical signs as those diseases stated above.
TVMDL offers veterinarians diagnostic testing options to aid in diagnosing a horse that exhibits neurologic clinical signs.

  • Equine Encephalitis Panel (WNV,EEE,WEE IgM-capture ELISA)
  • West Nile Virus (qPCR or IgM Capture ELISA)
  • Eastern Equine Encephalitis IgM (ELISA)
  • Western Equine Encephalitis IgM (ELISA)
  • Equine Herpesvirus-1 (qPCR)
