TSCRA government affairs staff are continuing to work diligently to resolve a serious cattle health issue created by Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller’s shuttering of fever tick spray boxes operated by the Texas Animal Health Commission and USDA–Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. TSCRA staff and leaders are in Denver, Colorado this week at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Summer Meeting and will report back next week on some of the many topics of interest that were covered in the meeting.
TSCRA staff and leaders also attended the 2018 West Texas Legislative Summit in San Angelo on Thursday. This year’s event focused on the important topic of energy, addressing production, transportation and other issues. Congressman Mike Conaway, Senator Charles Perry and State Representative Drew Darby were among the elected officials leading the event, with more than 30 other lawmakers in attendance.
The U.S. Senate this week appointed conferees to hammer out the differences between House and Senate versions of the 2018 Farm Bill. Despite the important step forward, negotiations will not start in earnest until the House returns from it’s August recess.
