TSCRA Govt Affairs Roundup: Early voting, hearings and hours of service regs

Early voting is just around the corner. The TSCRA Political Action Committee has released a list of recommended candidates for TSCRA members to consider when they go to the polls. Click or tap here to view the PDF.

TSCRA provided oral testimony Wednesday during a hearing of the Texas House Committee on Agriculture and Livestock. The committee heard testimony on the feasibility of developing and implementing a central filing system to be used for the filing of all financing statements that cover farm products being sold and purchased in the state that are subject to an agricultural lien.

Also Wednesday, TSCRA signed onto a joint letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Hours of Service regulations for livestock haulers. The letter is complementary of agency efforts but makes a strong case that the current hours of service frame is incompatible with livestock hauling. View the full letter here.

TSCRA government and public affairs staff continue to meet with Texas legislators and their staff to discuss proposed reforms to the eminent domain process. In the upcoming legislative session, TSCRA and our partner landowner organizations will seek to introduce accountability, transparency and fairness into the eminent domain process.

Staff is monitoring progress in Washington on several issues, including approval of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement that will replace NAFTA. It is currently speculated that Congressional approval of the trade agreement will not happen until after the first of the year.
