TSCRA Govt Affairs Roundup: 2019 Legislative Session and the shutdown

The 2019 Texas Legislative Session doesn’t start until next week, but almost 1,000 bills and resolutions have already been filed in advance. TSCRA government and public affairs staff are reviewing each bill filed to identify those that could impact cattle producers and landowners.

Thousands of additional bills are expected as the legislative session gets underway. More than 7,000 bills and resolutions were filed during the 2017 legislative session.

In Washington, the government shutdown continues, leaving critical issues like the implementation of the new farm bill and congressional approval of the NAFTA 2.0 agreement in limbo. Recent reports don’t provide much hope for a quick resolution, but TSCRA staff will continue to monitor the situation and engage federal leaders to mitigate any impact on cattle producers.
