Keep invasive pests from hitching a ride this summer

Source: USDA APHIS

RVs, UTVs and other vehicles that have been parked for a while can harbor pests or egg masses, which, if not removed before being moved, can begin infestations in new areas.

THE THREAT

Crop and tree-killing insects: European gypsy moths can lay eggs on vehicles that sit for long periods of time. Those eggs can hitch a free ride to uninfested areas far, far away.

What’s at risk: Gypsy moth caterpillars defoliate, weaken, and can kill more than 300 different species of trees and shrubs.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Keep It Clean: Check vehicles, especially wheel wells, for egg masses and other signs of insects and remove them. Wash off soil before leaving fishing, hunting, or camping trips.
