A bill that would exempt carriers from state laws requiring paid meal and rest breaks for drivers and, at least short term, exempt livestock haulers from compliance with the federal electronic logging device, has been passed by the House Appropriations Committee’s transportation subcommittee. The full Appropriations Committee is set to debate and consider the legislation Monday, July 19. The Commercial Carrier Journal reports that livestock haulers would, if the bill passes and becomes law, receive at least a 10-month extension for compliance, time the livestock industry says it needs to address specific concerns.
