Iconic Rancher, TSCRA Past President Dies at 92

Fort Worth, Texas – Joe Parker Jr., rancher and president of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) released the following statement today after learning of the passing of TSCRA Past President Hilmar Moore.
“We are extremely saddened to learn of Hilmar Moore’s passing, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his children and wife, Evalyn, during this difficult time.
“Mr. Moore was a lifelong cattlemen who dedicated his life and work to ranching. He served as President of TSCRA from 1974 to 1976. After his term expired he remained highly involved with the association, rarely missing a meeting up until the day he died.
His influence and legacy will have a lasting effect on our association, and more so, the entire Texas cattle industry. “
Moore was born July 28, 1920, in San Antonio. He studied law at the University of Texas. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, and, after being commissioned, taught navigation at San Marcos and Ellington Field in Houston.
He later joined the Fourth Air Sea Rescue Squadron based in Saipan and was awarded 3 Air Medals and 4 battle stars. From Iwo Jima, Moore flew rescue cover for the Hiroshima atomic bomb drop in 1945.
Moore is past chairman of the Beef Industry Council of the National Livestock and Meat Board, representing TSCRA and replacing Gov. Dolph Briscoe. He served as chairman of the Meat Board in 1986. Moore was a charter member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was named a National Golden Spur Award winner in 1989.
Besides being a renowned cattleman, Moore also served as the mayor of Richmond, Texas from 1949 until his passing. According to a 2008 BBC report, Moore was the longest serving elected official in U.S..

TSCRA is a 135 year-old trade association and is the largest and oldest livestock organization based in Texas. TSCRA has more than 15,000 beef cattle operations, ranching families and businesses as members. These members represent approximately 50,000 individuals directly involved in ranching and beef production who manage 4 million head of cattle on 76 million acres of range and pasture land primarily in Texas and Oklahoma, but throughout the Southwest.
