Mineral supplements are sometimes used to provide feed additives like fly control products, antibiotics, and ionophores. For these products to work effectively, it is critical that cattle consume the targeted about of mineral regularly. Average mineral intake should be monitored to determine if any adjustments should be made. If there are 40 cows in the group and the targeted intake is 3 to 4 ounces per day, per cow, then they would need to consume 7.5 to 10 pounds per day or 52.5 to 70 pounds each week.
