According to the Daily Livestock Report for Jan. 4, 2019, extreme temperatures last week affected the flow of cattle and hogs into processing plants but they also appeared to affect product sales from packers to end users. As the weather worsened, many folks stayed at home at restaurants were shuttered. Packers appeared to respond to the slowdown in business by reducing slaughter. It was also too cold to transport hogs in the Midwest, dropping numbers even lower for hog slaughter. Read more…
