US Cattle on Feed up 9 percent

The UDSA released their latest Cattle on Feed numbers Friday. Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.7 million head on March 1, 2018. The inventory was 9 percent above March 1, 2017. Placements in feedlots during February totaled 1.82 million head, 7 percent above 2017. Net placements were 1.76 million head. During February, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 325,000 head. Marketings of fed cattle during February totaled 1.68 million head, 2 percent above 2017.
For Texas, Cattle Placed on Feed on 1,000+ capacity feedlots was up 14 percent over numbers posted for this time last year and down 9 percent from last month.
