TSCRA Government Affairs Roundup: CERCLA, EPCRA, NAFTA and election candidates

TSCRA government affairs staff are working diligently with the EPA, Congress and other livestock associations to resolve CERCLA and EPCRA reporting requirements that will affect livestock producers. In 2017, the DC Circuit court determined that EPA did not have the authority to exempt agriculture from these reporting requirements, thus vacating an exemption that was on the books for 10 years. The court’s official mandate could be released as soon as Monday, Jan. 22, 2018. TSCRA will continue to work to resolve the issue and provide cattle producers with the information they need to stay in compliance. Click or tap here for more information on this topic.
Government affairs staff are also closely watching news of the potential government shutdown, as has been widely reported by national news outlets.
TSCRA government and public affairs staff have also been meeting with candidates for the upcoming Texas primary election. While those meetings continue, we have already begun to release some endorsements. A more comprehensive list of candidate recommendations will be released to TSCRA members in the coming weeks. Early voting runs Feb. 20 to Mar. 2, with election day on March 6.
Next week, on Wednesday, Jan. 24, TSCRA Director Kelley Sullivan will participate in a panel discussion to talk trade issues, especially NAFTA, and their impact on the Texas economy and cattle raisers.
