Hot Temperatures to Continue
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any indication the hot temperatures will decrease anytime soon. For the next seven-10 days temperatures will be anywhere from five to 14 degrees Fahrenheit above-normal for Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and parts of Kansas. There could be some relief for Oklahoma and Kansas over the weekend (July 21-22) but expect another warm-up early next week and then some cooling on Wednesday-Thursday (July 25-26). There doesn’t seem to be any letup for the next 10-days for Texas or New Mexico.
The image below shows the expected maximum and minimum heat index for this Friday (July 20) along with counties that have cattle and calf inventories greater than 50K head. As you can see, North Texas and the Gulf Coast could see very high minimum temperatures by this Friday, July 20. As mentioned above this trend will continue through Tuesday (July 24) for most of the TSCRA area.
What to Expect for the Rest of July
We should also expect little rainfall this week. The accumulated rainfall forecast from NOAA shows very little rainfall over the next seven days for the TSCRA area. However, the 10-day forecast shows we could get some precipitation over parts of the Texas-Oklahoma Panhandle, and northeast New Mexico. Southeast Colorado could also see some significant rainfall.
