Cattle Raisers Weekly Government Affairs Activities: Texas farm bill listening session announced, Animal Disease Traceability framework

July 7, 2017
As a function of TSCRA’s commitment to representing ranchers and landowners in Texas and across the Southwest, our governmental and public affairs office is hard at work tackling the issues important to the beef industry. The association’s team of knowledgeable and experienced representatives are out in the field both locally and nationally to defend landowner rights and the ranching way of life. Each week we will keep TSCRA members informed and up-to-date on the activities and issues taking place in Austin, Washington D.C. and around the globe.
This week:
House Agriculture Committee Chairman Michael Conaway (R-TX) announced a listening session in Texas to gather input from farmers, ranchers and stakeholders on the next farm bill. The listening session will be July 31, 2017, in San Angelo, and will correspond with the annual West Texas Legislative Summit. TSCRA leaders and staff will be participating and are currently working to assist in coordinating aspects of the events.
TSCRA staff are also working to prepare for USDA public meeting to discuss the successes and challenges of the current Animal Disease Traceability framework. The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. on July 20, 2017, at the Dallas/Fort Worth Marriott Hotel at Champions Circle. All TSCRA members are welcome and encouraged to attend. If planning to attend, please register here.
Coming Up:
TSCRA leaders and staff will be traveling to Denver next week to attend the National Cattleman’s Beef Association (NCBA) Summer Meeting.
