Cattle Raisers Government & Public Affairs Roundup: Ag Guestworker Act and Federal Tax Reform

This week TSCRA signed on to two letters supporting the Agricultural Guestworker Act of 2017 sponsored by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte. The first, organized by the National Cattleman’s Beef Association (NCBA), comprised many state affiliates. The letter states, in part, “the cattle industry is just one of many industry groups that has seen worker shortages for many years. The livestock industry has a need for a visa program that includes year-round workers that are well trained and understand the cattle industry.”
The second letter was cosigned by numerous Texas agriculture groups that also asked Congress to support Chairman Goodlatte’s bill.
TSCRA government affairs staff have also been closely monitoring federal tax reform efforts and will weigh in on components important to cattle raisers as debate continues in the coming weeks.
