FORT WORTH, Texas (August 31, 2026) — Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association President Stephen Diebel today issued the following statement after Texas Animal Health Commission released the first eligible New World screwworm Infested Zones in Texas:
“Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association applauds USDA-APHIS, Texas Animal Health Commission and the ranchers and landowners who have worked together to combat New World screwworm in the U.S. The release of two Texas infested zones marks an important step forward and restores continuity of business in these areas.
This milestone shows what can be accomplished when federal and state animal health officials work alongside those on the ground using science-based protocols to guide the response. We know the fight is not over, but we are grateful for this progress and remain committed to protecting the livestock industry and pushing NWS back to the Darién Gap.”
