Nation's cattle on feed trending lower

Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the U.S.  for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.7 million head on  Nov. 1, 2016,  1 percent below 2015 numbers. Placements in feedlots during October totaled 2.17 million head, 5 percent  below 2015 numbers. Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in Texas feedlots with capacity of 1,000 head or more totaled 2.49 million head on Nov. 1, 2016, down 3 percent from a year ago. However, the numbers were up 3 percent from last month. Producers placed 445 thousand head in commercial feedlots during October, down 3 percent from a year ago. Texas commercial feeders marketed 395 thousand head during October, up 10 percent from 2015.
