ALLEGED CATTLE THIEF TURNS HIMSELF IN

For Immediate Release: Dec. 7, 2011
Contact: Carmen Fenton, 512-469-0171
PAWHUSKA, OKLA. – A Sperry, Okla., man turned himself in to authorities Tuesday on larceny of livestock charges. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger Bart Perrier led the investigation.
Terry Lee Jett Jr., 40, was charged with allegedly stealing 16 head of cattle from an Osage County rancher who hired Jett to catch and pen his cattle.
According to reports, after catching the cattle, Jett transported them to 2 local livestock sales where he sold the cattle under his name.
Perrier, who covers Northern Oklahoma for the association, says livestock thefts have been up in recent years.
“The most important thing a rancher can do to protect their livestock from being stolen is to brand their cattle and register that brand,” says Perrier. “Ranchers should also regularly count their cattle, lock their gates, and be overall mindful of who comes on and off their property.”
On Nov. 30, Jett turned himself in to authorities in Tulsa County on 9 counts of knowingly concealing stolen property. Jett currently has charges pending in Rogers County for the same offense.
Jett was release today on a $5,000 bond. Jett is set for status conference on Jan. 5.
