Transmission line seminar offers information and options for landowners

The Texas Wildlife Association (TWA) and TSCRA are teaming up to offer landowners an educational seminar featuring expert information on the electric transmission line process (CREZ) and options for private landowners who may be impacted by the proposed transmission line routes. The seminar is scheduled for Oct. 8 in Kerrville at the UGRA Guadalupe Basin Natural Resources Center. Future meetings are scheduled for Cleburne and Lubbock. Five Nations Beef Alliance Young Ranchers Program announced for 2011

The future of the cattle industry is in the hands of the young. Established in 2010, a new program under the Five Nations Beef Alliance attracts brings together young leaders from Australia, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and the U.S. who are passionate about the future direction of the beef industry. The program is open to anyone ages 18 to 35 who is involved in the cattle industry. The next meeting is scheduled in Denver on Jan. 8-15, 2011. The deadline for registration is Dec. 15, 2010. Texas Agricultural Land Trust Hosts “Saving Family Lands” Seminars

To help farmers and ranchers keep their land intact and pass it on to the next generation, the Texas Agricultural Land Trust (TALT) is hosting two “Saving Family Lands” Seminars.” The three-hour seminar, which is designed for landowners, CPAs, attorneys and anyone else who deals with the issues inherent in passing family land on to future generations, will be taught by Steve Small, who is the nation’s leading authority on private land protection options and strategies. Young cattle raisers gather for free program on ranch business management tools

More than 30 young cattle raisers gathered this afternoon in the TSCRA headquarters Brand Room for the August Young Leadership Series, sponsored by Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health. The Saturday session is expected to draw more than 40 young cattle raisers to the full-day event. TSCRA’s Young Leadership Series program, sponsored by Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, provides educational opportunities for cattle raisers and supporters of the beef production industry, ages 19 to 39. Extension expert: Keep expenses in check when in cattle business

Watching the bottom line in an operation is more important than ever in the cattle business, and there’s not much room for equipment-related purchases that aren’t absolutely necessary. On average, cow-calf producers operate on something around a $40 per calf profit margin, said Dr. Ron Gill, AgriLife Extension beef cattle specialist and associate department head for the department of animal science at Texas A&M. August information meetings planned for Oklahoma

TSCRA, Stillwater Milling and Apache Livestock Auction teamed up July 20 to bring information to Oklahoma ranchers and landowners. Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association offers free Cattlemen’s Field Day in Hopkins County

Fort Worth, Texas – Ranchers in the Hopkins County area can attend a free Cattlemen’s Field Day hosted by the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA). The field day will take place Monday, June 21, at the Professional Agricultural Workers Building in Sulphur Springs.

Experts will present programs focused on Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD), fetal programming and sustained nutrition and new cattle marketing strategies.
A complimentary lunch will be served at noon. The program begins at 1:00 p.m. and will conclude at 5:00 p.m. Participants with pesticide applicator licenses will receive two Continuing Education Credits (CEUs). Participants will also receive one beef quality credit. The full speaker schedule is below.
