TSCRA’s next Young Leadership Series meeting is planned for Sept. 6-7 in Fort Worth. This meeting’s focus will be on sustainability with speaker Dr. Jude Capper, sustainability consultant and an Adjunct Professor of Animal Sciences in the Department of Animal Sciences at Washington State University. TSCRA student outreach program held at Angelo State University

Angelo State University (ASU) hosted a TSCRA outreach event for students Monday evening in San Angelo. Attendees heard from TSCRA’s Association Promotion Vice Chair Dennis Webb about how being involved in TSCRA has benefitted him and why the students should be involved. Committee member Zeb York also told attendees about the association’s young member programs and TSCRA Second Vice President Richard Thorpe discussed importance of being involved in an organization like TSCRA. Thanks go to Angelo State for hosting the event and to sponsor Rocker B for the beef dinner, which was prepared by members of the ASU Meat and Food Science program. Read more…

Ranching 101 Series talks cattle marketing options in Fort Worth

TSCRA hosted the March Ranching 101 Series in Fort Worth Tuesday afternoon, welcoming more than 25 attendees for an afternoon session to discuss marketing options for cows, calves and bulls. Tim Niedecken, TSCRA executive director, association services, covered topics including what happens at a livestock market for sellers, buyers and the cattle; preparing your cattle for market and what your options are for contracts, sales, treaties and partnerships; and current marketing issues affecting the cattle industry, like foreign currencies, drought, export markets and truck weights. Gary and Sue Price, 77 Ranch, Blooming Grove, Texas, were recognized Thursday, Feb. 7, as the national winner of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Environmental Stewardship Award during the 2013 Cattle Industry Convention. TAHC adopts revisions to Texas’ cattle trich program

The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) adopted revisions to Texas’ cattle trichomoniasis program during the quarterly Commission Meeting on Oct. 5. Bovine trichomoniasis, or trich, is a venereal disease found in cattle, but does not affect humans or other livestock. Infected breeding bulls continue to appear and act normal. Only testing by a veterinary practitioner will confirm the presence or absence of the disease. Read more…
