Angelo State University (ASU) hosted a TSCRA outreach event for students Monday evening in San Angelo. Attendees heard from TSCRA’s Association Promotion Vice Chair Dennis Webb about how being involved in TSCRA has benefitted him and why the students should be involved. Committee member Zeb York also told attendees about the association’s young member programs and TSCRA Second Vice President Richard Thorpe discussed importance of being involved in an organization like TSCRA. TSCRA hosted the March Ranching 101 Series in Fort Worth Tuesday afternoon, welcoming more than 25 attendees for an afternoon session to discuss marketing options for cows, calves and bulls. Tim Niedecken, TSCRA executive director, association services, covered topics including what happens at a livestock market for sellers, buyers and the cattle; preparing your cattle for market and what your options are for contracts, sales, treaties and partnerships; and current marketing issues affecting the cattle industry, like foreign currencies, drought, export markets and truck weights. more…

The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) adopted revisions to Texas’ cattle trichomoniasis program during the quarterly Commission Meeting on Oct. 5. Bovine trichomoniasis, or trich, is a venereal disease found in cattle, but does not affect humans or other livestock. Infected breeding bulls continue to appear and act normal. Only testing by a veterinary practitioner will confirm the presence or absence of the disease. more…
