Former Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) Investigator Kent Dowell joins the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) as a special ranger for District 3 in Oklahoma. Dowell replaces Paul Cornett. TSCRA Crime Watch: Amarillo saddles stolen

TSCRA Special Ranger Harold Dempsey, Dist. 1 in the Texas Panhandle, reports the theft of three saddles from a property in Amarillo. On the evening of May 12, a thief or thieves cut the padlock off a trailer parked at a property in Randall County. Stolen were: 1 Oliver saddle stamped #3579 with poinsettia tooling; 1 Oliver saddle stamped #3581 with full rough out; and 1 Oliver saddle stamped #3583 and waffle tooling. TSCRA Crime Watch: Cattle stolen in Oklahoma and horse trailer, tractor stolen in Llano County

TSCRA Special Ranger Max Hartmann, Dist. 26 in Central Texas, reports the theft of a horse trailer in the city of Llano that held 4 saddles and other items. Also stolen from another property near Bluffton were a Mahindra tractor and a 16-foot tongue pull flatbed trailer. Freestone County man indicted on felony theft charges

A four-month cattle theft investigation concluded Wednesday after a Freestone County man surrendered to authorities. Jackie Lynn Farish, 68, of Wortham, was indicted April 24, 2013, on third degree felony theft charges regarding missing livestock. more…

Oklahoma man jailed in cattle theft case

A Poteau, Okla., man was arrested Thursday by TSCRA Special Ranger Bart Perrier on a warrant for four counts of Larceny of Livestock. Kevin Lyle Hanna, 50, is accused of stealing four commercial cows from his neighbor in February 2013. The cattle had brands and ear notches, which helped investigators positively identify the cows and track down the suspect. more…

Milam County man charged with second degree cattle theft

A Burlington man has been charged with one count of felony livestock theft and one count of misapplication of fiduciary property after he turned himself in to Milam County authorities April 24. William J. (Jim) Crennan, 55, is accused of failing to deliver 230 head of cattle owned by a Panhandle feedyard company. TSCRA Special Rangers Marvin Wills and Hal Dumas led the investigation, which is ongoing. More charges could be filed. more…

TSCRA Crime Watch: Calves stolen in Texas Panhandle

TSCRA Special Ranger Harold Dempsey, Dist. 1 in the Texas Panhandle, reports the theft of 13 black baldy calves from a property in Armstrong County. Sometime between March 4 and 20, a thief or thieves entered the property near Claude and made off with the calves, all branded with a D over bar on the right hip. The calves also had a 7 under bit in both ears and weighed approximately 200 pounds, each, at the time of the theft. TSCRA special rangers recover stolen livestock and equipment worth millions in 2012

In 2012, TSCRA Special Rangers investigated 980 cases in Texas and Oklahoma, primarily involving stray or stolen livestock. The total market value of all recovered livestock and property reached $4,474,479. Convicted thieves received a total of 279 years of prison, state jail, probated and suspended sentences and deferred adjudication. Thieves paid more than $3.8 million in restitution, fines and court costs. In 2012, more than 10,400 head of cattle and horses were reported missing or stolen to TSCRA, a large jump from 2011 when the number reached 7,600. more…

TSCRA Crime Watch: Northeast Oklahoma cow shot and killed

TSCRA Special Ranger John Cummings, District 5 in northeast Oklahoma, reports the death of a cow March 15 near Chelsea in Rogers County. The 4-year-old heavy-bred black commercial cow was shot from the roadway with what is believed to have been a small-caliber rifle. The calf was saved by an emergency Cesarean section. Oklahoma man pleads guilty in horse thefts

Michael John Delaney II, 28, of Wynona, Okla., pleaded guilty Feb. 21 to 2 felony counts of Larceny of Domestic Animals after stealing 2 horses he was hired to break and train. Delaney received a 10 year deferred sentence with supervised probation and was ordered to pay $2,500 in restitution and another $1,700 in court costs. more…

TSCRA Special Ranger John Cummings, Dist. 5 in northeast Oklahoma, reports the theft of an orange 2003 Kubota L3000 DT 4-wheel drive tractor. Sometime between Feb. 13 and 14, the thief or thieves cut the padlock on a pipe gate to steal the tractor, which also had a Kubota LA 4505 loader attached. TSCRA Special Ranger Doug Hutchison, Dist. 20 in Central Texas, also reports the theft of 6 head of branded cross-bred heifers from a property near Davila. The cows are all branded on the left hip with a left-leaning Lazy J and an arrow directly underneath the J pointing to the left. The heifers also had blue ear tags. more…

Two Broken Arrow men ordered to pay restitution to victims of cow killings

Two Broken Arrow men, who pleaded guilty in February 2012 to killing 8 head of cattle with a bow and arrow in Rogers County, Oklahoma, were ordered Friday to pay $85,000 in restitution to the victims. Traton Tyler Vanderpool, 20, and Jared Wade Barlass, 21, were released Friday from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Regimented Inmate Discipline (RID) program on 4 years probation. more…

TSCRA Special Ranger Larry Hand, Dist. 13 in East Texas, reports the theft of 10 head of cattle from a property near Arp in Smith County. Sometime between Jan. 9 and 10, a thief or thieves cut the lock on a pipe gate and loaded the cattle using onsite pens. Stolen were 7 black cows with numbered ear tags in their left ears, a small F1 heifer calf and a calf of unknown description. TSCRA Special Ranger John Cummings, Dist. 5 in Eastern Oklahoma, reports six cattle missing near Stilwell in Adair County. Some time between Dec. 30 and 31, the cattle were removed from the property. Missing are five black heifer calves, all weighing approximately 500 to 600 pounds each, with a fresh “DS” brand on the right hip. Also missing is one red heifer calf, 500 to 600 pounds, with a fresh “DS” brand on the right hip. The cows, which were branded with an R on the right hip and an 8 on the left thigh, were last seen in October and may have originally been estrayed.
