According to the Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM), a lawsuit will be filed Friday in federal court seeking a permanent injunction against the use of beef checkoff funds by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) as a contractor. The suit was filed on behalf of OCM Vice President Mike Callicrate against the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), the Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB), and CBB’s operating committee. In a press conference Thursday, OCM President Fred Stokes announced news of the lawsuit, which he claimed was fostered by the animal rights activist group Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS).
