TSCRA participates in Industry Summer Conference

A large delegation of almost 30 TSCRA members participated in the Cattle Industry Summer Conference hosted by National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA), Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB), American National Cattle Women (ANCW) and the NCBA Foundation. Coalition urges waiver of RFS because of drought

As drought conditions become the worst in 50 years, and corn yields are expected to drop significantly, a coalition of meat and poultry organizations Monday asked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to waive the federal mandate for the production of corn ethanol. In a petition delivered to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, the coalition asked for a waiver in whole or in substantial part of the amount of renewable fuel that must be produced under the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) for the remainder of this year and for the portion of 2013 that is one year from the time the waiver becomes effective. TSCRA Crime Watch: Cow stolen in Gatesville; Trailer stolen in Oklahoma

TSCRA special Ranger Marvin Wills, Dist. 15, reports the theft of a black cow branded with a running W over bar on the left hip. Sometime between July 13 and 17, the cow was stolen from her holding pen near Gatesville. TSCRA Special Ranger Paul Cornett, Dist. 3, also reports the theft of a beige tandem axle livestock trailer sometime between July 26 and 27 from a property near Ada in Pontotoc County, south Central Oklahoma. USDA offers more flexibility for CRP emergency haying and grazing for 229 Texas counties

USDA Texas Farm Service Agency (FSA) Acting Executive Director James B. Douglass announced that 229 Texas counties are eligible for Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) emergency haying and grazing because of the new provisions announced by Secretary Vilsack on July 23, 2012. Read more…

House pitches shorter farm bill

Anxious to show progress before the August recess, House Republicans unveiled legislation late Friday that would extend most current farm programs for one year while providing immediate disaster aid to livestock producers impacted by this summe’s severe drought. Direct cash payments would be trimmed modestly to help cover the costs, but their extension is controversial in itself since both the House and Senate Agriculture Committees have recommended reforms that would end the multibillion dollar subsidies.
