TSCRA to host July 19 ranch gathering in Spearman

Join Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) for a ranch gathering on Thursday, July 19, at the O’Loughlin Center in Spearman. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by a complimentary beef dinner. TSCRA Special Ranger Ben Eggleston will give an update on recent livestock and equipment thefts in the area and how ranchers can better protect themselves against thieves. Read more…

TSCRA Crime Watch: Cattle, tools stolen in North and East Texas

TSCRA Special Rangers have reported the theft of 22 head of mixed yearling steers and heifers from a property in Jack County in North Texas, as well as 53 cattle missing from a property in Van Zandt County and more than $14,000 in tools taken in Navarro County in East Texas. Read more…

CWD found in far West Texas deer

Two mule deer from far West Texas have tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD), the first cases of CWD detected in Texas. Wildlife officials believe the event is isolated to a remote area of the state near the New Mexico border. CWD is not known to affect humans. The Texas Wildlife Association (TWA) is confident in the containment strategy and response of state wildlife and animal health authorities in the wake of the announcement and TWA has trust and confidence in the state wildlife and animal health professionals, as well as in the experts in the field, who are effectively responding to this situation. TWA is confident that the rest of the Texas cervid industry is being protected from this detection of CWD in far West Texas. Read more…

NCBA Redbook available for purchase

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) has published the 2013 version of its Integrated Resource Management (IRM) Redbooks. The books serve as a tool to record calving information and daily production activities. The 2013 Redbook provides more than 100 pages to record calving activity, herd health, pasture use, cattle inventory, body condition, cattle treatment and more. The books also contain an annual calendar, address section, Beef Quality Assurance national guidelines and proper injection technique information. Read more…

TDA Market Recap, July 9, 2012

For the week ending July 7, a feeder cattle price trend for Texas auctions is not available as most locations were closed for the Independence Day holiday. Texas feeder cattle sales directly to stocker operations and feedlots were mostly steady. At Oklahoma City, the sales volume was not sufficient to establish a trend. The fed cattle cash trade was almost $1 higher per hundredweight and beef prices were lower. Read more…
