US cattle on feed up 2 percent

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the U.S. for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.1 million head on June 1, 2012. The inventory was 2 percent above June 1, 2011. Placements in feedlots during May totaled 2.09 million, 15 percent above 2011. a

The number of cattle on feed for feedlots in Texas with capacity of 1,00o or more has remained steady since June 1, 2011, and was down in Oklahoma by 10 percent. The number was also up two percent from May 1, 2012, in Texas and up 8 percent in Oklahoma from the month previous.
