TSCRA to host ranch gathering in Roaring Springs

Join the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) for a ranch gathering Thursday, June 28, at the Roaring Springs community center, 1100 FM 3203. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by a complimentary beef dinner. TSCRA Special Ranger Dean Bohannon will update the crowd on recent livestock and equipment thefts in the area and how ranchers can better protect themselves against thieves. Perry renews proclamation extending drought emergency

Gov. Rick Perry has renewed a proclamation extending drought emergency for specified counties due to the ongoing exceptional drought conditions across Texas. NCBA statement regarding Trans-Pacific Partnership invitation to Mexico

On Mon., June 18, 2012, President Barack Obama announced that the the countries negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) have extended an invitation to Mexico to join the TPP trade negotiations. In addition to the U.S., the current TPP countries are Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Vice President Bob McCan, also a past president of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA), commended the announcement and issued the following statement. USDA authorizes emergency grazing of CRP acres for Floyd County

USDA Texas Farm Service Agency (FSA) Acting Executive Director James B. Douglass announced on June 18 that Floyd County is authorized for emergency grazing use of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres for fiscal year (FY) 2012. Based on a decision made by the Texas FSA state committee, CRP emergency grazing approval will only be available for those CRP lands that were not utilized for haying or grazing during the previous 12 months. Cattle prices softer with deteriorating pasture conditions

Most classes of cattle found softer bids last week as continued dry weather is rapidly deteriorating pasture and range conditions across a wide swath of cattle country. Cattle feeders also found a steep decline for market-ready cattle as southern feedyards traded at $119 per hundredweight, $3 lower than the previous week. Read more…

Cow-Calf Corner: Stocker and feedlot margins, a study in contrasts

The stocker and feedlot sectors provide a dramatic contrast in the economics of two beef industry sectors. While the stocker sector sees opportunities with strong values for forage-based gains, the feedlot sector is under increasing pressure as limited feeder cattle supplies, high feed prices and excess capacity combine to result in severe feedlot losses.
