The USDA’s Texas Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced that county committee election nominations begin June 15, 2012. Farmers, ranchers and landowners are encouraged to nominate farmer and rancher candidates to serve on their local FSA county committee by the Aug. 1, 2012, deadline. Elected county committee members serve a three-year term and are responsible for making decisions on FSA disaster, conservation, commodity, and price support programs, as well as other important federal farm program issues. more…
USDA’s annual publication “Meat Animal Production, Disposition and Income” shows that 5 states had a 2011 value of cattle production in excess of $2 billion: Texas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and California. The total for the U.S. was a record $45.176 billion, up $8.2 billion from the year before. more…

For the week ending June 9, feeder cattle prices at the Texas auctions covered by USDA Market News were mostly steady to $3 higher per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas direct feeder cattle trade was steady to $3 higher. The Oklahoma City auction was mostly steady. Fed cattle cash prices were nearly $1 higher compared to the previous week, while beef prices were lower with Select-grade offerings posting the most decline. more…
