TSCRA to host ranch gathering in Canadian

Join the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) for a ranch gathering Tuesday, June 26, at the Lake Marvin campground. FSA county committee nominations start June 15

The USDA’s Texas Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced that county committee election nominations begin June 15, 2012. Farmers, ranchers and landowners are encouraged to nominate farmer and rancher candidates to serve on their local FSA county committee by the Aug. 1, 2012, deadline. Elected county committee members serve a three-year term and are responsible for making decisions on FSA disaster, conservation, commodity, and price support programs, as well as other important federal farm program issues. Five states’ beef industries top $2 billion

USDA’s annual publication “Meat Animal Production, Disposition and Income” shows that 5 states had a 2011 value of cattle production in excess of $2 billion: Texas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and California. The total for the U.S. was a record $45.176 billion, up $8.2 billion from the year before. Read more…

Louisiana’s Office of Animal Health and Food Safety has new tool to track cattle

Louisiana’s Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., said state animal health officials implemented a new state of the art traceability system June 4 for livestock that will allow animal health officials to identify a single animal if foreign animal disease or terrorist attack threatens a state herd. TDA Market Recap, June 12, 2012

For the week ending June 9, feeder cattle prices at the Texas auctions covered by USDA Market News were mostly steady to $3 higher per hundredweight (cwt). The Texas direct feeder cattle trade was steady to $3 higher. The Oklahoma City auction was mostly steady. Fed cattle cash prices were nearly $1 higher compared to the previous week, while beef prices were lower with Select-grade offerings posting the most decline. Read more…
