Applications for the first-ever Texas Beef Quality Producer (TBQP) Award are now being accepted. The TBQP Award will recognize winners in the area of beef, dairy and/or cattle marketing. The winner will be chosen based on Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) management practices, good animal handling practices, as well as their involvement in BQA leadership and education efforts.
The TBQP program raises consumer confidence through offering proper management techniques and a commitment to quality within every segment of the beef industry. Therefore, this award is open for nominations from all segments of the industry.
“As Texas food producers, your livelihood depends on securing consumer trust,” said Jason Bagley, Texas Beef Council beef quality and export senior manager. “It doesn’t matter whether your herd is large or small, whether you buy and sell cattle, or whether you run a dairy operation; maintaining consumer confidence and acceptance of beef should be a top priority.”
The TBQP award winner will be selected by a committee of representatives from Texas AgriLife Extension, Texas Beef Council and Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Nominations can be submitted by any organization, group, or individual on behalf of a Texas beef producer or marketer.
The award winner will be announced at the upcoming 2012 Texas A&M University Beef Cattle Short Course in August. Winners of the TBQP Award, as well as other qualified applicants from Texas, will also compete for the National BQA Award.
Applications are due by July 2, 2012, and can be found at TexasBeefQuality.com.
