USDA targeting additional strains of E Coli. in raw beef trim starting Monday

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) next week will begin instituting a zero-tolerance policy for six additional strains of E. coli that are responsible for human illness. Beginning Monday, FSIS will routinely test raw beef manufacturing trim, which is a major component of ground beef, for the six additional strains of E. coli. Trim found to be contaminated with these pathogens will not be allowed into commerce and will be subject to recall. Read more…

TSCRA Crime Watch: Cows missing in McLennan County

TSCRA Special Ranger Marvin Wills, of Dist. 15 in south Central Texas, has reported the theft of seven head of black and mostly black baldy cows from a property near Robinson in McLennan County. On May 30, the thief or thieves drove through a fence and loaded cows that were penned. It is believed that the suspect was also hauling a horse. Texas State-Federal Lab joins National Animal Health Laboratory Network

The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) is pleased to announce that the Texas State-Federal Laboratory in Austin has been accepted into the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN). The Texas State-Federal Laboratories are a collaborative effort of the TAHC and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services (USDA-APHIS-VS).
