Special Ranger testifies before state Senate committee

Garcia appointed to Railroad Commission

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed H.S. Buddy Garcia of Austin to the Railroad Commission of Texas for a term to expire at the next general election. Garcia was most recently a commissioner at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, a position he has held since his appointment in January of 2007. more…

Mixed reviews for new FDA guidance

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a new guidance Wednesday, April 11, on the use of antibiotics in livestock production, drawing mixed responses from livestock organizations and groups opposed to antibiotics in agriculture. The final Guidance 209 calls for voluntary suspension of non-therapeutic use of certain antibiotics in livestock. more…

Texas Dept of Agriculture seeks 100-year family farms, ranches

In continuing a proud tradition of honoring hardworking generations of Texas farmers and ranchers, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples invites families to apply for the Texas Department of Agriculture’s (TDA) Family Land Heritage (FLH) Program. The program recognizes family farms and ranches that have been in continuous agricultural production by the same family for at least 100 years. Applications are due May 1, 2012. more…
