The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) and Texas Sen. John Cornyn Wednesday announced their strong support for recently-introduced legislation that would provide for a permanent repeal of the federal estate tax, commonly referred to as the death tax. Cornyn is a co-sponsor of the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act, S. 2242, which would stop the federal government from considering death as a taxable event. more…
Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and his office of special prosecutions announced the guilty pleas of four former livestock executives on Tuesday that will result in court-ordered restitution for Metcalfe County farmers. The pleas were made by former executives of the New Albany, Ind.-based Eastern Livestock LLC, which is now defunct. As part of the plea deal, restitution will be paid. more…
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today reminded landowners, farmers and ranchers that the opportunity to enroll in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up 43 ends on Friday, April 6, 2012. Producers who want to offer eligible land for CRP’s competitive general sign-up may enroll at the Farm Service Agency (FSA) county office where their farm records are maintained. more…
TSCRA Special Ranger John Cummings, Dist. 5, has reported the theft of 10 head of cattle from an eastern Oklahoma property in Muskogee County. Sometime between March 18 and 20, the thief or thieves removed a locked gate from its hinges and used holding pens to gather and load the cattle. Stolen were eight medium-framed, mostly black heifers, one curly-haired white heifer and one solid black yearling bull. None of the cattle have brands or eartags.
