Study claims red meat increases risk of death; others say findings flawed

A Harvard health study released Monday claims red meat increases the risk of many diseases and premature death. However, representatives from the meat industry, including the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the American Meat Institute, says the study – which is observational, assigns too much blame to red meat, ignoring other factors that could lead to premature mortality. They also reassert that scientific evidence supports the role of lean meat in a healthy, balanced diet.
